Do you know your brakes? What you need to know about brakes.

The wheel is the only part where the car contacts the ground. The sole purpose of braking is to stop the wheel from rotating, which is directly related to safety.

Next, we will interpret the brakes in turn from brake types, brake disc materials and brake system structure.

Brake type

brake

Drum brake and disc brake are two kinds of brake structures that are mainly used for minibuses in the market. Most minibuses in the market use disc brakes, and because drum brakes basically appear in some low-end models and have low production costs, drum brakes have gradually become synonymous with low-end, but they have also appeared in models with not low prices, such as Nissan's Tuda.

The drum brake pushes the brake pad by the piston in the brake drum, which causes friction resistance between the brake pad and the peripheral brake drum. The braking performance of drum brake is excellent, and the biggest shortcoming lies in poor heat dissipation and thermal attenuation of continuous braking.

Compared with drum brake, disc brake is almost a "perfect choice", with good ventilation, good drainage, simple structure and other advantages, but the braking force is slightly inferior to drum brake, which is why the almost covered model is a small passenger car.

Careful fans will find that common disc brakes have different textures and materials. Disc brakes mainly include smooth surface, scoring disc and punching disc. Several lines of perforated scoring disk.

Among them, the optical disc has poor high temperature resistance, the scribing disc can effectively remove impurities between the brake pad and the brake disc, the perforated disc can accelerate the air flow to take away heat, and the perforated scribing disc combines the advantages of punching and scribing.

However, perforation does not mean perfection. During the research and development stage of Porsche Cayenne, Porsche tested the perforated brake disc and found that the perforated brake disc would collect debris, which would cause the brake disc to wear too fast and even damage the brake system.

Brake disc material

There are three main types of brake materials in use, namely metal-based brake discs, carbon-carbon brake discs and carbon-ceramic brake discs. Most civilian cars use metal-based brake discs, and a few high-performance cars will use expensive carbon ceramic brake discs.

Carbon-carbon brake disc is a special material composed of carbon lattice and carbon fiber, which is applied to F1 racing cars.

Carbon ceramic brake disc has almost become one of the necessary signs of high-performance vehicles, and it is applied in high-speed trains, airplanes and other fields that need high-performance braking, but this does not mean that carbon ceramic brake is the only choice for the best braking.

GT3

Careful fans will once again find that there are no carbon ceramic brake discs on the cars of top events such as GT3 and WRC. We can believe that this is not the cost that restricts the team to use carbon ceramic brake discs. First of all, although carbon ceramic brakes have extremely high temperature resistance, it doesn't mean that the brake parts don't need heat dissipation. If the local temperature continues to rise, it will affect the normal work of the whole vehicle. Even the carbon materials used in F1 don't have good heat dissipation capacity, but F1 has a separate air duct to cool the brakes, so the good thermal conductivity of metal brake discs has become the first choice for GT3 and other racing cars.

Brake is the most important part of the whole vehicle, and its working state is closely related to the safety of life and property. I hope that the majority of car owners will check and maintain the brakes frequently. There are thousands of roads, safety is the first, and I hope I can arrive safely every time I set out.
